Report Repair
Are you one of
the tens of thousands of individuals that are seeking to repair
your credit report? If so let us help you decide if you need to
seek credit report repair specialists, or if you are in a
position to repair your credit report on your own.
You've got a
copy of your credit report, now what? Here are some tips and
advice if you plan on going solo with your credit report repair.
What you
need to know first.
Not all the
items on your credit report hold the same weight. Certain debts
fall into categories that make it difficult to eliminate them.
It used to be that if your credit reports clearly showed you
were having problems paying your bills, you would be able to
file for bankruptcy and your bills would simply disappear. Not
anymore.
If your credit
report repair starts with you having to decide what to pay and
what to let go into bankruptcy, here are some ideas of what
you'll want to pay first and what can wait.
-
Pay your
taxes. If you owe the Federal or State government taxes and
it appears on your credit report chances are they are in the
process of taking action towards you. You'll need to
contact them immediately and start some kind of payment
plan. It is extremely difficult to ever eliminate debt owed
to the IRS, but the longer you wait to contact them the more
debt they'll add.
-
Pay off
secured debt. If you have debt on your home or vehicle and
you need those items, you'll want to work with those
companies to right any missed or late payments. If you
default on your secured debt/loans, the banks and lending
institutions WILL take away your property.
-
Pay your
credit cards. If you can arrange reasonable payments with
your credit card companies, do so. Be sure to close your
account immediately though, so they can't increase your
interest rate at will.
When you get
your credit report and are preparing to repair your credit, be
very through. Any item you find on your credit report that
doesn't belong needs to be reported to the credit agencies.
Items you may find on your credit report that don't belong are
accounts that are paid off, or ones that never existed to begin
with. When you contact the credit agencies, explain you are
currently repairing your credit report and be specific about any
discrepancies you've found. It is also very helpful to include
copies of any supporting evidence you may have to back up your
claim.
If you find
yourself unable to take these steps on your own, or simply don't
have the time to repair your credit report on your own there are
credit report repair specialists out there that can help. In
cases that the amount of debt on your credit report is simply
unplayable, you will likely need to seek the advice of a legal
expert. Although bankruptcy laws have gotten tougher and
require those filing to seek debt counseling and other such
nonsense, it can still be done. It is important to remember
that sometimes extreme measures must be taken to clear your
credit and thoroughly repair your credit report.
Whether you
decide on repairing your credit report on your own or seeking
the counsel of credit report repair specialist, we're sure
you'll be pleased with the end result.
